It has been a while since our last post and folks have reached out to us asking when we plan on finishing that series as well as what we plan to do next. The only answer we were able to give was a short grunt and a quick “busy now! but it’s cool stuff!”. Now that we have a chance to breathe it seems like a good time to update you all in the state of the Dojo and what we have planned in 2015.

One of the fastest ways to help you understand this place is to know who we are and what we do. The Dojo is named such because of the traits it shares with my “other” Dojo. This is the place where talented people gather to practice techniques, explore new ideas and spar with challenging problems to get better at what we do.

The roster shifts depending on the projects we are tackling at the time but the core is a small group with long experience in embedded controllers, rapid prototyping of mixed physical / software systems as well as full stack software development.

In short, if you are looking for some guys who can build a Kinect driven auto-aiming Airsoft turret that can inform you on twitter every-time is shoots your friend in the butt? We can do that.

So far what I have described there is really a “maker” mentality, and we are all makers and members of that wide flung community. The reason this is the Production Dojo though is that we are also very entrepreneurial minded (with a few start-ups under our belts) and can also make sure that little turret could be produced in quantity while being backed by a cloud service to support thousands of users.

That’s simple – customers have to come first. The Dojo is not just a place for us to talk about pet projects and fun stuff we do on weekends although there will be plenty of that (see below). This is a functioning consultancy.

Right now in addition to continuing to work with the Intel Edison and Galileo boards we have a client who will be going to Kickstarter this month. That project will be announced here as well and we handled the design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing explorations for. And of course there has been a lot of time spent expanding our capabilities and working on our current ones.

It’s been a busy, but awesome 5 months!

Every one of us loves educating and generating content. We firmly believe that helping others with our experiences not only helps the feedback cycle that benefits us all but is the best possible way to attract good clients and awesome partners.

Between our personal projects and the work we do for clients there is always a lot of very cool stuff going on here and we will show you absolutely as much of all that as we can in the form of video series and blog articles. One of the internal discussion topics has been what we want out of the Dojo and sharing with the community was #1 on the list.

In the pipeline we have the following…

There is lots more, but as you can see we already have a lot to keep us busy while we still deliver for our clients. I hope you check in often, it is going to be interesting!
